Number 4 bests Number 5 for Number 1
at the SA Open, while Number 20 finds 9th

This past weekend was a rather hectic one. Shopping, shopping and drinking. So, you’ll have to excuse me for not scribbling anything in a few days.

There is only one thing I care to address in this post, and that is the South African Airlines Open. It turned out to be a real snap crackle pop all over my pants type of tournament. The Goose and the Big Easy went toe to toe through all 18 holes of their final loop around Fancourt Links on Sunday. The last few holes were to say the least, remarkable golf.

The nail really sank into the coffin on 17, when Retief holed out his chip from about 20 feet out for birdie to take a one stroke lead. The 18th was next, a nice little par 5, with 549 yards of lumps and humps stretching down the fairway. Both men’s drives were monstrous, but Ernie’s 2nd was what took the cake.

With his sweet and easy swing, Mr. Els shaped his shot perfectly. He landed his white rock just perfectly on the intimidating mound that stands guard at the front right side of the green. It fed slowly down to the hole.

With just the right touch, Els was putting for eagle and the win. The only business that needed to be addressed was a delicate 6 footer. As he stood over his putt, I couldn’t do anything but hope out loud. The Big Easy stroked his putt, only to see one hell of a rim job. Both men eventually made birdie, with the Goose earning the “W”.

Goosen commented that he’s going to be taking off the next 6 weeks for some R & R before teeing it up in Dubai in February. Good call my man. Take a load off and get ready for the 2006 season.

Big Ern on the other hand has been showing a little gusto-tude as of late with his stellar play in the past three weeks. Winning last week and coming in a closer than hell second this week, the Big Easy is on track for a record season.

My man Timmy C (Tim Clark) finished 9th, +2 for the tourney. Can you believe that action? The fourth round did some serious damage.
